Bill Gates thinks that there might be a new flu epidemic which is just knocking around the corner. He said that we all are unprepared for the same and it may cause huge destruction to human life. On Friday, the billionaire Philanthropist said that it is “significant probability of a large and lethal modern-day pandemic occurring in our lifetimes.”
Bill Gates says all this at the Massachusetts Medical Society and the New England Journal of Medicine; he started to comment about the new flu that has potential to wipe out as many as 33 million people worldwide in 6 months.
Bill Gates who always think about the human progression said that the World and the especially United States are way back in “pandemic preparedness.” Gate said “If weapons were being built that could kill 30 million people, governments would act fast to prepare for them. With biological threats, there is no sense of urgency.” Gates raised this problem at the Munich Security Conference in 2016, the World Economic Forum in Davos last year and an op-ed in Business Insider.
These type of threats are the primary concern which is the variation of the natural pandemic which is a deliberately engineered pandemic which can be used in a bioterrorism attack. The advances that are made in technologies can be used to prevent the spread of viruses which can be used by notorious groups to create new threats and weaponized pathogens. CRISPR, which is a powerful gene editing tool promises about plenty of good, which will enable an attack by malicious actors.
Gates warned in the year 2016 that, “The next epidemic could originate on the computer screen of a terrorist intent on using genetic engineering to create a synthetic version of the smallpox virus … or a super contagious and deadly strain of the flu.” Gates was continuously warning about the threats, but his warnings are falling into the deaf ears on those who can do something about this threat.
As per Washington Post, Gates net with Donald Trump to highlight the issue of global health security and Trump tell him that to follow up with officials at the Health and Human Services Department, the National Institutes of Health, and the Food and Drug Administration.
