The CEO of Google Sundar Pichai, who is hosting this year’s Google’s yearly developer conference on Tuesday, said about some most advanced technology. Google currently has about seven products which have at least 1 billion active monthly users. Most of the users are unaware that their data are used in this way, and sometimes they could not work as well without access to the user’s data. As per Morning Consult poll, it had helped Google as one of the world’s most well-regarded brands.
David Yoffie, who is a professor at the Havard Business School, said in an email, “Google is walking a very fine line. Search, plus Android gives Google amazing insight into individual behaviour. Google’s stated privacy policies seem adequate, but the question that I cannot answer is whether Google’s stated policy and actual behaviour are the same. Facebook had a stated policy for the last three years which most of us found acceptable until Cambridge Analytica came to light.”
Google has installed some guardrails to protect the data from being misused. The company said that it is not selling any users data and it makes a user anonymous after 18 months, and it also offers tools which help in deleting the recorded data piece by piece or entirely.
A user can limit the data which is being collected by Google by changing the advertising preferences. The company also offers to fine-tune the controls to help the user to opt out of tracking via Google’s advertising cookie. You can see and delete the data by personal tracking about yourself.
