According to the research and study by the International Computer Science Institute in California, it was discovered that it is worrisome finding. There are more than 16500 Android Apps which has been tracking your everyday activity for a long time, but the main reason to worry about is if user’s don’t give permission to gain access, it still tracks and save your day to day activity. As these Android apps are saving data collected from your devices, each and everything you do on your device. And as per the information, all these Android apps are violating and not following the rules and regulation laid by Google itself for collecting data or information about the users that can be used to target advertising to the specific users.
As per the information and report, in the question, the Android app lets you track your so-called advertising ID with other recognizing data from your own device, there is no method to change or scale.
Google‘s preferred best exercises and method for app developers include using only that advertising ID, which is a different, unique digit or you can say number applied and manage to personalize ads to a user’s. But as per this study and report, it clearly shows that “little fewer than a third of the apps that collect identifiers take only the Advertising ID.” In simple words, all others are using every type of unique identifying information that can connect your device to you.
In an uploaded blog post regarding the research published today, in which researcher Serge Egelman explain how he and his team manage to find Android apps sending information and data that can classify and recognize the user’s on to ads services.
About five months ago, after we have presented that report, till now, we have not received any message or anything from Google about whether they have prepared a solution to a problem or not. In the meantime, there are many several Android apps now perform to be violating Google’s policy. The main cause of all these Android apps is that Google is providing user’s with privacy control, but those privacy controls do not do much about it, as they only manage and control the ad ID, and we are confirmed that in the huge numbers of cases, other determined identifiers are being stored and saved by apps in addition to the ad ID.
As per the Egelman’s research, some of the famous and favorite Android apps also performing this activity. Apps such as Angry Birds Classic, Audiobooks by Audible as well as Flipboard. The same activity is also performed by utility Android apps such as Battery Doctor and Clean Master, and the shocking part is, it is downloaded by more than 1 billion users, as per the given information.
Google told that it had already examined the report given by researcher Egelman and take serious steps towards some Android apps. Google does not mention anything like how many Android apps it acted on or what action was taken, or to find which of the rules and regulation the Android App had violated. The reason which Google said its policies only allow for the collection of hardware identifiers and the Android ID for a few purposes, such as fraud detection, but seriously not for the targeting of ads.
