A salmonella outbreak which has led to a massive multi-state recall in April after more than 12 people have reported to came in contact with foodborne illness. More than 200 million eggs have been recalled after the reports of people getting sickened after eating popular breakfast food item.
The salmonella outbreak has sickened a total of 35 people from nine states. As per the Food and Drug Administration announcement, more than 207 million eggs which are produced by Rose Acre Farms in Seymour, Ind., were already been recalled due to salmonella contamination. Previously about 22 people were sickened. The nine affected states which have reported this disease are Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey, Virginia, West Virginia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
The Food and Drug Administration has published said that the affected eggs have come from one of the company’s farms which are located in Hyde County, North Carolina. The eggs which are sold in the market under various brand names like Coburn Farms, Crystal Farms, and Country Daybreak. These eggs are available at stores of Walmart and Food Lion.
According to CDC, “It continues to recommend consumers, restaurants, and retailers should not eat, serve, or sell recalled eggs produced by Rose Acre Farms’ Hyde County farm.” The CDC added by saying, “Throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.”
Rose Acre Farms has announced the voluntary recall of about 206,749,248 eggs which are sold in the market under various brands. The firm has issued a statement in which it has apologized to all and said, “We apologize to anyone who may have been sickened or who has a family member or friend who may have taken ill because of our eggs. The company said. It added it had taken steps to ensure the farm meets or exceeds the standards which are set by the FDA and US Department of Agriculture.”
Salmonella is a type of bacteria which can be found inside the contaminated eggs and on eggshells. People who are suffering from this disease will show symptoms of fever, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Infants and old people are at high risk due to this disease as they have weak immune systems and salmonella can make it serious and that can be even life-threatening and can raise complications.
