In a recent development, the health officials have asked the people to throw out the pre-cut melon in major supermarket chains which are after the salmonella outbreak, and they are linked to the watermelon. This pre-cut melons have already made sick 60 peoples in about five states, as said by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday.
Caito Foods company, LLC has already recalled the packages of pre-cut watermelon, cantaloupe. Honeydew melon and fresh-cut medley products which contains these melons after people have reported starting feeling ill after eating the fruits. The fruit was said to be produced in a facility present in Indianapolis, Ind. As per the officials, the people have started complaining about the salmonella after they have eaten the pre-cut melon which is between April 30th and May 28th, 2018. Till now 31 people have been hospitalized.
These melons were sold in plastic clamshell containers at Payless Owen’s, Jay C, Kroger, Costco. Sprouts, Trader’s Joe’s, Walmart, Walgreens and Whole Foods. These fruits were distributed in the areas like Illinois, Indiana, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Missouri, and Ohio. Caito Foods have already recalled the fruits and seized the production and distribution of the melons. Consumers who have bought the pre-cut melons at that time are now asked to throw it away. If the consumer didn’t remember about the fruit from where it has been bought then also officials asking to throw it away.
People who have suffered from this salmonella outbreak have developed the symptoms like fever, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. At present, the infections could be proved fatal, and it can occur especially in very young children or elderly people as they are weak as a comparison to middle-aged peoples. These bacteria can also cause endocarditis, infections, and arthritis on rare occasions.
