RTX 4080 scores It outperforms the RTX 3080 by 70%. The significantly cheaper 40-series GPU is popular for gaming. Preliminary benchmarks indicate it may be a strong GPU. Though you can’t buy one, it’s interesting to see where it stands. It’ll be more intriguing to compare it to AMD’s RDNA3 GPUs. We’ll have to wait until Dec. 13 for those.
Videocardz posted anonymous RTX 4080 16GB benchmarks. They note their acquisition. As always, results may vary. The site evaluated a “semi-custom” Nvidia reference design PCB model. The board wasn’t photographed, so it’s unknown whose model they tested. The card was tested at standard, 10 W overclocked, and overclocked.
They are overclocking and increased 3DMark TimeSpy by 9% and Port Royal by 7%. That’s impressive, as Nvidia GPUs rarely benefit from overclocking. The 40-series’ enormous coolers may change that. RTX 4080 16GB Founders Edition and 4090 are the exact sizes. Partner AIBs will likely be huge.
Chiphell put out new benchmarks for popular games, including a comparison of the RTX 4080 and Radeon RX 7900 XTX. Cyberpunk 2077 achieved 62 frames per second in 4K with Ultra RT. Chiphell says that the 4080 runs at 82 fps with the same settings. Chiphell used a Ryzen 7 7600 X CPU to make Cyberpunk figures. There are 4K benchmarks for Borderlands 3, Forza Horizon 5, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. We don’t have the latest GPU numbers from AMD to compare.
. Nvidia gave its own scores for the RTX 4080 16GB and 12GB (RIP). This PR campaign was for DLSS 3, which is only available on the 40-series right now. AMD said that its FSR technology improves how well GPUs work. RDNA3 GPUs target 4K and 8K gamers. AMD says that their most expensive GPU, the XTX, can compete with the RTX 4080 16GB, even though it costs $200 less.
Like the 4090, the RTX 4080 16GB could be a “4K-only” GPU. Even with a Core i9-12900K, this flagship model can have CPU bottlenecks at 1440p. The AD103 die on the RTX 4080 is almost half the size of the one on the RTX 4090, so it may not be as powerful. The 256-bit memory bus and the CUDA cores are both smaller.
